Crystal Lake 5th Anniversary Celebration: In honor of the Williamsburg hotspot’s fifth anniversary, Crystal Lake is hosting a “Carrie” themed prom party this Friday the 13th! The Museum of Modern Art is hosting a screening of the popular Guillermo del Toro film “Blade II.” Watch Wesley Snipes team up with a squad of vampire commandos and hunt down a new kind of blood-sucking monster. “Tangible Nature” Gallery Show: Opening at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge this weekend, Tangible Nature is a new photography exhibit by photographer Dean Moses. NYRR Open Run: Cannery Park: Start your morning with a good run in Canarsie Park. Runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to join the journey, hosted by New York Road. Meet at Seaview Ave and Remsen Ave. Free at 9am.
Central Park Winter Tree Walk: There is a part of Central Park which is green all year round – Pinetum. Take a walking tour of the area with the Central Park Conservancy on Saturday afternoon. Explore the 17 species of trees that grow in the four-acre arboretum while learning about the history of the place in the park. Tours begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 with a 20% discount for Conservancy members. Meet at the Pinetum, located northwest of the Great Lawn.
read to a therapy dog: While a dog can’t read for itself, they certainly make great listeners! Kids can take a few minutes on Saturday mornings at the Webster Library and read some licensed therapy dogs.
