Portsmouth, OH – Majority Democrat were in uproar this week Social media giant Meta has decided to restore Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts after they were originally suspended following the attack on the US Capitol building by supporters of the former president on January 6, 2021.
Meta announced last Wednesday that they were allowing Trump back on their social media platforms in support of the concept of free speech, and that “Some Railings” Will be put in place to prevent possible problems in the future.
Trump was to be banned from Facebook and Instagram for his alleged role in encouraging his followers to storm the Capitol Building in an attempt to prevent certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election. “An extraordinary decision taken in extraordinary circumstances,” Meta said in a statement.
“Social media is rooted in the belief that open debate and the free flow of ideas are important values, especially at a time when they are under threat in many places around the world,” Meta said. “As a general rule, we do not want to get in the way of open, public and democratic debate on Meta’s platforms, particularly in the context of elections in democratic societies such as the United States.”

Meta did not indicate an exact date that Trump’s ban would be lifted, only that it would be as soon as he felt he could “now”.risk“For public safety.
“We are bringing Mr. Trump back in the coming weeks with certain guardrails that apply to any public figure suspended for certain violations during times of civil unrest,” Meta said in the statement. “The penalties and possible sanctions we have imposed are a deterrent.”
Trump also recently lifted his Twitter ban, but has thus far chosen to remain exclusively on his own platform, Truth Social.
In response to the news that Meta had brought Trump back on their social media platform, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) sent an angry letter to Nicolas Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs.
“Based on Meta’s previous statements on the platform’s standards for bringing Trump back, his account should not have been reinstated,” the letter said. “Trump continues to post damaging election content on Truth Social that would likely violate Facebook’s policies, and we have every reason to believe he will bring similar conspiracist rhetoric to Facebook.”
