Twitter launched Twitter Blue last year in four markets – the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The Elon Musk-owned agency plans to launch a new model of the subscription service in these 4 markets on Monday.
Musk has extended the options to Twitter Blue, which promises a verified checkmark for anyone subscribing, which includes, among other options, longer types of video content and fewer ads tampered with. In another tweet, Musk said, those who’ve already got the verified checkmark can subscribe to Twitter Blue to keep it up in the coming months.
He has previously said that Twitter Blue, which costs $7.99 a month in the US, may be a more reasonably priced for local purchase parity in some countries.
“Power to the people,” said the notice, replacing Twitter’s iOS app in anticipation of Monday’s rollout. “Your account will get a blue checkmark, just like the celebrities, companies and politicians you already follow.”
Musk is betting on turning the subscription service into a serious income driver for Twitter, which he acquired last month for $44 billion – $13 billion of which he borrowed from banks. Musk will have to pay more than $1 billion annually in interest funds.
This week the firm laid off about half of the company’s employees, or about 3,700 jobs.
In a series of tweets over the weekend, Musk provided some additional updates on Twitter Blue. He claimed that the corporate could “beat” YouTube’s ad-revenue cuts, and that fixing search performance on Twitter is a “high priority” for the agency.
He added that Twitter will soon enable customers to attach long text to tweets. Many customers who want to have longer text have posted screenshots of the text written on the Notices app over time. Musk said the new reform would eliminate such “absurdity.”
